![]() If you were ever searching for a film in 2008 that took shooting to the next level, "Wanted" would have been your first stop. This movie is action-packed with high-octane energy surrounding some epic trigger pulls! Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman lent their acting talents to "Wanted" giving it that polished feel, while James McAvoy stars front and center. We feel in love with this movie from the first time we saw it and even still, in 2013, it gets us pretty hyped. Now, let's Unhinge this bad-boy and see what's inside. Wesley(McAvoy) was just your average cubicle drone tap-tapping away at his keyboard in a dead-end job, working for someone he couldn't stand., before meeting Fox(Jolie). Now, who is Fox? Fox is a sexy, tattooed assasin that unexpectedly comes into Wesley's life at a dangerous time. Or so he thought. Wait a minute, wait a minute, let's back this up a bit. "Wanted" is the story of a man living a mundane life, who is suddenly thrown into a world very different than anything he could have ever conceived in his wildest dreams. You see Wesley, the main character, is pretty much an ordinary guy working at a dead-end job that he can't stand, in the beginning. The only true difference that the viewer is shown is that he has an extreme anxiety disorder which renders him helpless whenever he is confronted with conflict. This is shown by his inability to stand up to a power-hungry boss and a so-called friend that is happily sleeping with his girlfriend. But all that soon changes for Wesley, when he makes a routine stop to refill his monthly prescription. Okay, now where were we? Ah yes. Wesley goes into the pharmacy to refill his medication when he notices that he's being followed by a mysterious man. Not thinking much of it, Wesley proceeds with the transaction and suddenly, Fox(Jolie) pops up right beside him. At that precise moment, Wesley is surrounded by a barrage of bullets and wistfully escorted out of the pharmacy. (The action sequence that follows his exit has got to be one of the the top adrenaline pumpers in cinema history) So after the sequence dies down, for a bit, Wesley's whole life is turned upside-down because who he thought he was is not even close to who he was born to become. This is a great film to watch because it speaks to the notion that at any moment, anyone of our lives can change forever in an instant. We could be at the pharmacy like Wesely refilling prescriptions or even taking out the trash when destiny knocks at our door. Now, it might not be in a cascade of unrelenting bullet-fire, but the event's moment could be as severe an impact, nonetheless. Another nice quality about "Wanted" is that as Wesley finds his footing in the story, we get to watch him experience self-doubt which is commonly left out in a lot of today's films. This little jewel of realism adds dimension to the character that easily strengthens the backbone of the entire presentation. As for the action in the movie, Amazing! We're talking car chases, bullets bending the laws of physics all the way to blood lust and slo-motion cinematography. We've all seen action, but not like this, at least in 2008 we didn't. Another good selling point about this film is that even though there is a truckload of CG effects and fast paced excitement, the movie actually has a solid plot. Anyone can attest to watching a movie that's all bells and whistles with no true meat, no real substance. This is where "Wanted" differs again because it has a balance of both which catapulted this movie into "Cinema Greatness". Now for the inspiration of "Wanted", we can thank a comic-book of the same name, written by Mark Millar and J.G Jones. The original characters from the comic are similar to the ones in the film, but tweaked strategically for obvious reasons needed to sell the story in a 100+ minute presentation. Chris Morgan and few other writers took on the task of writing the screenplay for this 2008 release and we've got to say, "Great Job, fellas". So is "Wanted" worth your time watching? Yes, Indeed! Will you get to see Angelina Jolie in a role that would kick Lara Croft's arse? That would be a big 10-4. Is this movie like "The Matrix"? At times with the action, but it's uniquely it's own film. Do you recommend it for me? If you like awesome bullet-fire, Jolie and plot twists, then this movie is definitely for you!
