"Finding one's purpose, for some can be as easy as looking into a mirror, but for others, they must go beyond The Dark World"
So if you remember correctly, Thor in the first film was trying to prove himself worthy with acts of valor in the name of Asgard. Well this time around, he knows his true worth and he'll die trying to protect it! Thor is phenomenal as always and in this year's battle he takes on some of the most vile creatures to come out of Marvel's nether regions. We know your just as anxious to find out all the juicy bits just as much as we were sitting front row with the BIG Popcorn..lol So kick back and relax, as we Unhinge, "Thor: The Dark World".
In this most recent venture, we find Thor(Hemsworth) sweeping the realms doing what gods do to bring peace about lands fraught with turmoil and despair. However, this time the evil finds something of his, something very near and dear to his heart, but what could it be? We know Thor is a generous man, a powerful god and it could be any one of many things that rest in his heart. We'll get to it later, but for now, we'll tell you that something grabs Thor's attention in a 2am blue-light special kind of way.
So while, Thor is quenching his curiosity Loki(Hiddleston) is being held captive within Odin's dungeon, biding his time and seeking a way out. He does his best to plead for Odin(Hopkins)'s mercy, but it's falling on deaf ears. Has Loki done too much to ever be considered loyal to the people of Asgard or even furthermore, his father?
One of the things we really enjoyed about "The Dark World" is that Marvel gets dirty, we're talking under the nail-grime. Some of that crud that gets trapped in your sink drain and requires a pair of scissors and thick arse gloves to manage. Some of the more sinister themes that were less prevalent in the first are definitely getting plenty of shine here in the second chapter. Elements of black magic and myth find their way into viewer scope which gives us, the audience, insight to some of the more complex dynamics between characters. It's really a treat!
Now, back to it. Have you figured out what's peaked Thor's interest yet? Drum-roll please... It's Jane! Somehow, Jane(Portman) has fallen off the grid and even Hiemdall(Elba) can't see her with his all-knowing eyes. Something has her in it's icy grip and it's definitely a game changer, but is Thor ready for the challenge? We've seen him slay some of the biggest and baddest foes out there, but this particular type of evil is even older than he. It's even older than Odin, it's ancient, but what is it?
We didn't think Marvel could do it with another one, but they have been on a roll lately and "The Dark World" is another pleasing experience. Watching this one definitely makes you want to go back and dig through your old comic books for sure. There are a lot of new characters and faces to learn, but that's all apart of the adventure.
As far as action, this film has just as much if not more than the first Thor, but it's of a different hue. Thor has finally realized(and maybe this is a result of his battle in New York) that he can't do it alone. No man is an island and that goes for Marvel gods too..lol Showing a bit of humility and growth in his journey is evident and we appreciate The Greatness! So if you haven't found your way to a theater yet, get to one this week because it's a solid winner.
