The Usual Suspects-Who Is Keyser Söze?-Unhinged Reviews

  Talk about "Whodunit"!  This film has got to be one of the best examples of misdirection to date!  "The Usual Suspects" is one of those movies that will have your wheels churning the whole way through and then even more after the movie is over..lol

  Christopher McQuarrie demonstrated the art of putting the pen to the paper when he concocted this compelling and totally engaging masterpiece.  Even after all these years, "The Usual Suspects" is still at the top of it's class.  Shall we Unhinge this classic?  

Who Is Keyser Söze?

    One might think it would be easier to deduce who he's not, but think again.  This movie is the Ultimate Whodunit and all you have are the clues you hear throughout the story to make an estimated guess at best.  Still makes for a good film though!  So let's look at all the players within the inamous line up.

• Roger Verbal Kint(Kevin Spacey)- a crippled gimp that appears to be easily influenced by others.  He uses his vulnerabilities to run scams and con others.
• Fenster(Benicio Del Toro)- a skinny good looking guy that surely doesn't have English for a first language, but knows his way around the crime circuit.
• Hockney(Kevin Pollak)- a short guy whose good with explosives and also has a matching short temper
• Michael(Stephen Baldwin)- stone-cold killer that would rather shoot first and ask questions later.  His trigger finger often wins most of his arguments
• Keaton(Gabriel Byrne)- a mastermind, a plotter, this is a man who left the game several years ago, but has comeback because he's just that good at what he does.

So What's The Movie About?

  Well, glad you asked..lol  The movie questions the events that lead to a couple dozen men being killed along with a huge explosion within a nearby harbor.  Now this seems like it would be an easy case, but the fact that there are only two surviving witnesses make the detectives's jobs that much harder in finding the truth.  They have a strong hunch that it's a drug deal gone bad, but other evidence points to something more menacing and evil.    

  Now, Kint does his best to help detectives fill in missing gaps to the story, but with each fragment coming into view the story gets even more twisted.  The detectives swear Verbal knows more than he's telling, but everything keeps leading back to Keyser Söze.   Keyser Söze  seems to be at the heel of every major crook in this wicked river of death, guns and violence.    

  So who is Keyser Söze?  Well, that's what the movies about, but as they get closer to the truth, it seems apparent that the truth is almost to unimaginable to believe.  How could one man mastermind a grand scheme to wipe out nearly an army of men without leaving a trace of himself?  To find out..watch the movie ^_^

Final Thoughts

  This movie is a must-see!  Spacey digs deep into Kint's character and draws out one of his best performances to date.  "The Usual Suspects" as a whole is purely a timeless classic that will be reviewed for years on.  It's a film that came out in the late 90s, but nothing thus far has been able to hold a candle to this phenomenal story.  Maybe that's the reason we keep it in the secret stash!
