![]() "If bullets were flowers then this would be the world's most giving film to date" -Unhinged Reviews Okay, so for tonight's review we went back to the archives and grabbed a classic! "The Killer" is one of the most talked about movies in rap history, right up there next to "ScarFace" and "Sugar Hill". This is an 89' film and it has by far one of the biggest body counts in the history of film! Chow Yun-Fat is merciless, as he plays an assassin named Ah-Jong, who has more heart than a panda, but more blood on his hands than a pack of rabid hyenas. So without anymore delay, let's Unhinge this John Woo classic! First off, we would like to thank the Wu-Tang Clan for even bringing this film into our radius, some several years ago. They have sampled and rapped about more Kung-Fu & Asian films than anyone else we know and this one is definitely something to talk about! John Woo's dagger edge is all over this title, even though some of you may only know his work from the latter films he did in America. Nonetheless, "The Killer" is a passion-driven story with boatloads of Killer action that is sure to quench the starkest of taste buds. So what's it all about? Well, we'll tell you. The movie begins with an unintentional victim becoming wounded by heavy-handed gun fire free-floating about a room during one of Ah-Jong's daily romps. Ah-Jong(Fat) is an assassin and he makes his money from killing, but it just so happens that on this particular day the bullets flew in his favor. Why, you ask? Because the victim that is wounded just happens to be a cute little number that Ah-Jong's had his eye on prior to the lead bath. So with Ah-Jong being the golden knight that he is, he can't help but become a guardian angel in this woman's life. Everywhere you look he is there, but most importantly, anywhere u find gun-fire he is there with a limited edition King Can Of Whoop Arse! Dude is a beast in this film, but he's not the only one that can carry a strap. Since he's been writing his name in lead, a stealthy detective named Li-Ying(Lee) is hot on his heels doing his best to put an end to his iron feast. But will it be enough? Either way, "The Killer" is one action soup bowl filled to the brim with bullets and blood. No stone goes un-turned and no gun goes un-cocked! Everyone's death is up for grabs and nothing is off limits. "The Killer" also has a lot of other strong points that we'd like to mention such as honor and loyalty, these are two things heavily respected in the world of assassins. Being able to trust someone is a commodity that many living by the gun can't afford because after all, it may be your best friend that carries your last bullet. There are several other cast members and moments in the film that are noteworthy, but we'd like for you to experience these on your own. We know that there is nothing worse than having a film ruined by knowing too much, before the title even rolls. This is another reason why here at Unhinged Reviews, we tell you what you need without giving the movie away. If you want your film spoiled, go to Imdb or something like that for a a review..lol. Now, for all those that appreciate a good viewer experience and only want to moisten their curiosity, We're Here to deliver the goods! Okay, hoping off the soapbox..lol In short, John Woo has made several exceptional action films since this one, but "The Killer" is more than likely at the top of every true fan's list. So if your looking for a Woo classic that can still get you pumped, even after all the film's you've watched, "The Killer" is good way to spend your afternoon. One more tidbit-watch the movie in Cantonese for full impact! Enjoy.
