 " If you thought an LSD trip was something out of this world, wait until you see how these guys respond to DMT-19!" -Unhinged Reviews "Banshee Chapter" is definitely one of those films that someone probably wrote while taking lethal hits of acid, but it was still entertaining..lol It's supposed to be a horror film, but it's more like a sci-fi documentary. Are there jumps in it? Maybe, if you're a jumper, but for seasoned vets like us, this isn't horror at all. Now, to the film's credit it does have a little shock value tucked away here and there, but it's nothing to scream at. So you ready to find out what happens? Let's Go! DMT-19? What Is That? Well, according to the film, and other sources there was some research done on mind-altering substances back in the late 50s. This involved LSD experiments and CIA mind-control theories which we won't delve into, but this is the basis of the film. Now, where the "Banshee Chapter" has some truths in it is with the fact that DMT is a hallucinogen and you could experience psychosis, but as for DMT-19, we think it would probably be just a higher top-secret dose. Now As Far As The Film It involves the deeper exploration of Project: MKULTRA by a young college student named James(Millian), who goes in way over his head. You see James contacts some of his old buddies from Colorado and gets his hands on this super-secret space juice(DMT-19). He has his friend record his trip for "documentation purposes" and that's when things get a little crazy because they vanish! Now, of course a lot more happens then that, but that's why you need to watch the film. So with the disappearance of James and his friend, another friend named Anne(Winter) decides to find out what really happened. This curiousity into what really happened could very well have something to do with the fact that she is a young journalist always looking for a good story. What she didn't expect is that she may find more truth than James ever would, by getting even closer to the very secrets the government tried to hide. Yeah, it's one of those films, but if you're into tripped out sci-fi type, phantom radio broadcasting brain splash, then this is your movie ^_^ So Where's The Shock Value? It's in there, along with creepy radio stations broadcasting countdowns from years ago. We're telling you this is a wild one, you may need some type of mind expansion kit to go along with this pickle..lol Now, we don't know what that might include, but we watched this in our "natural state" and it just seems like "Banshee Chapter" is better suited for a higher level of consciousness. So as far as the shock value, we don't want to give too much away because it's those moments which propel the viewer through this cosmic journey. We can tell you however, that these moments are what will have you pressing pause before getting your coke out the fridge. Final Thoughts Yeah, how about Blair Erickson is a director/screenplay writer that will not be fitting into any box anytime soon. "Banshee Chapter" was his directorial debut and we can already tell that this guy is going to to push the limits of the viewing experience in every film he touches. This is a good thing though because we get tired of watching predictable films. So, if you haven't seen this extraterrestrial story yet, you can watch it on Netflix now.
