Do you remember that awkward time in your teens when you didn't really know what to say or do on the first date? If you're like us, it wasn't your brightest moment and this short film titled, "Text Me" recaptures that in a 9 minute presentation.
There's nothing stellar about the performances, but it does however manage to show how the influence social media has on how we interact with the opposite sex. Want to know more about this film? Let's Unhinge...
What's Text Me About?
If anyone's ever felt like the two youths in this title, they can agree that the first date is always tough. This is the time when you're trying to decide whether or not you like someone, but at the same time you're kind of hoping that they at least like you.
Matt Bennett stars as one of two characters within this short story and for a quick jot on the back of a napkin film it's not too bad. Matt stars a nerdy kid named Noah who has somehow hit the lottery and scored a date with Jaime(Shackner) via Facebook.
From the moment the two meet, it's apparent that their encounter is not a home-run, but as the story progresses, the two find some similarities amidst their text frenzy.
"Text Me" is one of those quick hits that won't ruin your day if you miss it, but it just might be enough to make you smile.
How Dating Has Changed?
One of the things that jumps out in the concept of the film is how these two would never have even met, if it were not for social media.. Websites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have made it possible for people of different classes and backgrounds to bond before actually meeting face to face.
When most of us were in school, there was not Kik or Tango, every interaction with a person of interest was face to face. But even then, you had to stand or sit in silence and wait for the painful rejection or a check marked "Yes" box.
Nowadays, all you need to do to score a date is put up a good profile pic and throw out a few "lols" and you're in..lol
The Age of the Internet is here and it doesn't look like it will be going anywhere.. anytime soon.
