![]() "Lars, you never cease to amaze! Excellent ending to a captivating story" -Unhinged Reviews Talk about bringing a great story to a climax! Lars Von Trier has totally dotted his "I's" and crossed all the "T's". Picking up from where he left off in Nymphomaniac Vol I, Vol II doesn't lose any steam in it's transition. Joe is still sitting on the bed telling her story to Seligman, but ever deeper they dig. Joe's story takes on a spiritual tone before getting to the root of her naughty..naughty core. Just when you thought you'd seen and heard it all, Lars delivers in full! Want to know more ? Let's Unhinge... As we said up above, Lars is on his A game, for sure! This is the reason we love his films because he digs in tooth and nail. This is a director/screenwriter not afraid to get his hands dirty, no matter how controversial the subject matter. He will go into battle with some speedos and a flashlight..lol Well, maybe not the speedos, but he goes hard in the paint! So to get to it, Joe is on the bed, still talking about the sexual revelations that have come to her over the years. No pun intended. She is seemingly beginning to understand the reasoning behind her actions rather than just being a distant cold-hearted observer. She's starting to uncover the core of her promiscuous ways, as well as, uncovering the cause of her shocking surprise at the end of Vol I. Seligman(Skarsgård) also begins to divulge a little more about himself as Joe(Gainsbourg) struggles to find inspiration to navigate her story within the tiny room. It seems Seligman is not at all what Joe expected him to be because of his- you'll have to watch to find that one out;) What we can say is that you thought Joe was deep-diving before, you haven't seen anything yet! Some of the darker areas of her life that she flips through are definite eye-openers that will leave your jaw dropped to the floor. You know it's amazing the way she pushed herself to get to the point she's at in telling her story. One more mention we'll share is that there is another cameo in the film. Mr. Willem Dafoe, who is also known for his work with Gainsbourgh in AnitChrist. His character, "L" is a mysterious one, but serves as more of catalyst that edges Joe into the darker side of her plight. One has to wonder if Joe would have ended up in that alleyway, if it wasn't for their interaction. Our Thoughts On Nymphomaniac In It's Entirety Nymphomaniac as a whole is well-worth the time to watch. It was a good decision on Trier's behalf to split the film into two parts because the story is a lot to take in. We needed that pause between Vol I and II to allow things to marinate, allow us to form questions of of our own. Frankly, it's hard to say that we've seen anything like this before. A story so captivating, so edgy, so "Lars" that you have to look at your own sexual appetites in a different light. When's the last time, you've seen a film that was both educational and provocative at the same time? The manner in which Trier develops his stories and vivid characters is of an artistic expression. It's not just about the sex, but about the characters performing the actions. Joe doesn't just have sex for the hell of it, she's a Nymphomaniac and this film is her story. The Wrap Up Before even thinking about watching "Nymphomaniac Vol II", you need to go back and watch Vol I.
