![]() "For some, Horror is best served on a grotesque plate of blood and gore, but for others, cold-hard steel in the hands of a "Maniac" seems to do the trick." -Unhinged Reviews Move over Michael Myers, we've got another "Maniac" on the loose! Yes, that's right Krueger, Frank Zito is on the move and he's slinging cold-hard steel to anyone that gets in his path. Now, what we love about horror's newest addition to the world of psycho killers is that it's our beloved, Elijah Wood. Yep, Mr. "Fresh Out The Shire" has left the ring and rode out with his inner Gollum to give us all a memorable performance as Frank Zito, killer-extraordinaire. We're amp'd to Unhinge this puppy, so horror fans, let us begin! We're not going to lie, one of the first things that drew us to this film was finding out that Elijah Wood was going to play a Killer. This fact alone kicked our film search into high gear because when a Goody Two-Shoes actor goes dark, it's all the way Evil! You remember how Williams got dirty in "One Hour Photo" right? Remember the chilling impact it had on your psyche? Well, "Maniac" has that same appeal, if not even more. The film begins showing Mr. Softshoe a.k.a Elijah perusing the streets looking for a victim to unleash his delusional wrath upon. What makes Mr. Zito's story interesting is that he's not just out looking for any ol' person to slash, he's looking for a specific type of woman! That's right ladies, stay in doors when you see Zito(Wood) coming because he's single and ready to mingle(Lol). He's looking for a woman with long hair, but not just any length will do. He wants the longest of the long, he wants it swinging far below the neck, he wants it beautiful just like.. his mother's. Yep, our young, "Maniac" has mommy issues, but we're sure this is something that you probably already knew. It's not like half the serial killers and psychos we've seen in past films didn't have a phucked up childhood to send them off the deep end. Although, Zito's story begs to differ, if only just by a hair. You see his mother really did a number on him in his youth, she scarred his soul for life and the only way he's found to deal with his pain is through hurting others. Now we're sure this isn't the best solution, but in Zito's delusional state, this is the only solution that makes sense. So, we're not going to give you all the creepy carnage and back story festering within this entertaining film, but we will tell you that is well worth the watch. Especially for horror fans, if you love a twisted nut terrorizing the town, this is your film! Elijah Wood is awesome in his channeling of some of the more demented idiosyncrasies within the mind of a "Maniac". He not only adopts this remake of an 80s slasher, but he truly makes it his own. All this is of course guided under the direction of Mr. Franck Khalfoun, who most of you may know from films like "P2" or "Wrong Turn at Tahoe". So if your looking for an interesting film with one crazy nut job then, this is your movie! If your someone that doesn't want to see up-close and personal violence in a horror then this film probably isn't for you. -Unhinged Reviews- If you enjoyed reading this Unhinged Review of "Maniac", please share with others by clicking a button above or below.
