![]() "Life Of Pi" is an extraordinary experience! This movie takes you on an odyssey through majestic fantastical lands with a young boy, named Pi and the magnificent Richard Parker. Richard Parker just happens to be a 400+ lb Bengal tiger, if I forgot to mention! Together these two souls battle the elements of destiny, as everything they know and love has been left far behind them. This wonderful film can be enjoyed by all, especially those in search of a greater understanding of this thing we call life. The movie rolls out in a narrative form with a mature Piscine(Pi for short) telling the phenomenal story of his youth to a novelist in a casual interview. He talks of his upbringing within a loving household containing a stern father, supportive mother, playful brother and most importantly a zoo. Pi enjoys his life as a youth, dabbling in various religions to gain a higher understanding of his purpose on earth. This seems to be the cadence for Pi until he learns that his family must travel to Canada, by way of oceanic freighter. This is where his story begins, one long trip colliding with the perfect storm. I've got to admit that I was impressed with the amount of religion discussed in the film, as this seems to be a taboo topic on the big screen. The religious implications weren't overbearing or judgmental, but informative, as the spiritual beliefs supported young Pi's journey, as well as, his close bond with Richard Parker. For most of us, if we had to be stranded afloat the pacific ocean with a Bengal tiger, it would be a fairly short trip, but not for Pi. Pi digs deep to gather the courage and spirituality needed to look death in the face and boldly question the will of "God". "God" answers Pi, but not in a way that can be told with words, his response can only be witnessed in this wonderful film. The visual effects department did an amazing job of bringing life-like qualities to many of the computer animated creatures and landscapes within the film. This was a necessary step to complete the film because there is no way a young boy would have survived with a Bengal tiger in some of the more intense moments within "Life of Pi". All the hard work that went into this film payed off as the film has grossed close to a billion dollars to date. "Life of PI" is a worldwide success and with it's run time just tipping over the two-hour mark, that says a lot in terms of quality entertainment. Have you seen it yet?
