With "Insidious: Chapter 2" on the edge of everyone's mind, we felt it's only right to go back and look at the original Blockbuster, before you hit the theaters this weekend. "Insidious: Chapter 1" is a horror film telling the story of a family that finds themselves smack dab in the middle of a war to save their son, Dalton's soul. Now, it's not everyday that you have to travel to the "Further" regions of the universe to reclaim your essence, but for the Lambert family, they must do just that. So as we kick off this review, we are mindful of the first timers and will do our best to step over the surprises, but for you vets, you know what bits to fill in! Let's begin....
The film comes into focus with a family, "The Lamberts" getting settled into a new home and picking up routines that put normalcy back into
their everyday on-goings. You know things like work and school, but what does one do when one of your children suddenly falls into a coma? Do you just sit back and pray that they will come out of it on their own or do you seek outside assistance? Most would say seek the help of doctors and go from there, but what if the doctors say "We can't do anything for your son"? Do you go back home and pray for a miracle? Well, that's just what "The Lamberts" decide to do, in such a situation.
We know, we know, this doesn't sound like much of a horror yet, right? Well , keep reading and see what you find. So as, "The Lamberts" return home from the hospital, Renai(Byrne), the mother, begins to notice little paranormal oddities happening about their new residence that cause her to develop a bit of paranoia( at least that's what her husband would call it). This heightened anxiety, along with a comatose child seem almost too much for Mr. Josh Lambert (Wilson) to bear, but what if it's all true? What if Renai's delusional and very much paranoid rants about eerie voices and vanishing people are actually happening in the home? That's right ladies and gentlemen, Mrs. Lambert thinks that her new house is haunted! So what's a good husband to do? Well, Mr Lambert, Josh, decides to humor his wife's assumptions, by agreeing to allow a group of paranormal investigators into their home. This is where the rubber meets the road! Because not only do the investigators find some truth in Renai's statements, they find undeniable proof that her visions and rants are directly linked to Dalton, their comatose son! If you want to know more about what happens in this title, then your going to need to watch it for yourself. We wouldn't dare dream of depriving you of your trip to "Goosebump City". "Insidious" is one of those films that will have you either on the edge of your seat clapping or hiding behind your hands-jumping, but either way you definitely get your 90+ minutes worth of premium horror. James Wan directed this film and will also be present to steer the bow of "Insidious: Chapter 2" which opens tomorrow: 9/13/13, in theaters across the globe. So if you haven't seen this title, grab it at Redbox or order it from Netflix, it's not one to miss. -Unhinged Reviews- If you've already seen this title and are heading out to see, "Insidious: Chapter 2" this weekend, click a button to share the recap with friends.
