"Sometimes to get where you're going, you have to go back from where you came."-Unhinged Reviews
"Insidious 2" finds The Lamberts quickly learning that the farther they get from "The Further", the further they are from finding the truth. Now, let that one sit on your conscience for a moment because "Insidious 2" has enough plot twists and bends to leave your favorite backroads in a knot. You remember how in "Insidious:Chapter 1" it was all about Dalton and bringing him back to the light, right? Well, in "Insidious: Chapter 2" the ante is up'd and the only safe bet in the house is... your life. James Wan and crew outdid themselves with this one, as "Insidious 2" effortlessly lived up to the hype and
exceeded all of our expectations. Meaning, we knew it was going to be good, but we didn't know it was going to be that good! "Goosebumps and Jumps" come standard in this sequel, as it is stocked with some chilling visuals and those stellar background noises that linger in your ear long after the movies over. So now that you've been warned, let's begin.
"Insidious 2" picks up right where Chapter 1 leaves off, finding The Lamberts trying to gather their bearings and rebuild what little bit of normalcy is left in their lives. Things like school and laughing again are on the menu, but being that this is a sequel, you already know it will be short-lived. So what happens? Oh no, you won't get the spoilers here, but what we can share is that Dalton was merely a pawn of a bigger plan. A bigger plan that was executed long before the opening credits of the first "Insidious" were ever witnessed... Want more? Well, "Insidious 2" is kind of like Deja-Vu. You ever see something in the present, but you swear you saw it in your past? And when you realize that what you saw in your past was actually in your present? Yeah, that weird feeling you have now is kind of what it would feel like to be one of The Lamberts in Chapter 2. All twisted up in a circle running forward to go backward and finding out that forward is the only direction you can go to get back to the beginning. After watching a film such as this, we were easily put in the mindset of a psychological thriller like Memento, but instead of killers and photos, we saw spirits and Astral Projections. However, even with the film's similarities, Whannell was able to create something unique that stands out on it's own. We truly would have been disappointed if the sequel ended up being just another movie stuffed with over the top cascades of supernatural events that didn't harbor any real value. Whannell's decision to embed themes like "Family Togetherness" and "The Will to Live" in the screenplay are strokes of genius which give sustenance and grounding to this exciting series of film. So is "Insidious: Chapter 2" worth going to see in the theater? Of course it is, who would want to miss out on the opportunity to have a good goose bump rush along with 50+ strangers? People tend to feed off the energy of others, pay attention to that the next time you go to a film, it's uncanny! Well, we hope you enjoyed this short review and we know you'll enjoy the actual movie even more when you see it.
