![]() "You never really know who someone is until you bring them home to meet the family" -Unhinged Reviews- "High Tension" or "Haute Tension" is an older horror release coming out of 2003 that reminds us all why we love indie film. This is one of those slashers that gets straight to the grit and doesn't let up until the end! Plus, it's also a foreign film, so you already know there won't be any shortage of violence or blood for at least the next 89 or 91 minutes (depending on the version you see). Are you ready to Unhinge, "High Tension"? Let's Go... Okay, forget what you heard about going home for the holidays because this isn't that! In fact, it's far from it. This is a movie to make you think twice about bringing your bestie home to meet the parents..lol You see, Alex(MaÏwenn) thought it would be a great idea to bring her friend Marie(Cécile De France)home for some time away from college, but she had no idea of just how wild her weekend getaway would be. From the moment the two settle in there's already hints of death in the air for the viewer, but the two ladies are unaware. So as Alex and Marie get snuggled in for the night, there is a knock on the door and that's when all h-e-l-l breaks loose! There is a madman at the door forcing his way into their quaint little evening and flipping the whole house upside down! This is nothing new to horror, but the manner in which he does it is pretty freakin eye-catchin..lol You'd think that would be the full story, but it isn't... As the story continues, Alex begins to realize that she may be closer to the danger than she had ever imagined possible, while Marie does everything she can to save them both from the clutches of evil. One of the interesting things about this film, is the psychological twist rooted throughout the presentation. We're going to equate it to one of those moments when your completely blindsided by the 18-wheeler at the traffic stop. It's going to hit you and it's going to hit you hard, but if you love a good foreign horror, you'll appreciate it in the end. Another quality tidbit from "High Tension" is the background sound that plays throughout the movie. The film is engineered in a way that even when you don't hear a sound blaring through, it's always there to keep the tension tight. Alexandre Aja and Levassuer put a lot of thought into ensuring that the viewers have a unique experience..and a unique experience it is! There's not really much else to say about the film without giving the plot away, but if you're looking for bloody murder with a foreign twist, then "High Tension" is the road to horrific bliss.
