What Is "Her"? Oh you mean, Samantha? Her is the object of Theodore's affection. She is an OS that makes Siri look like a pig in a mud puddle. Samantha is state of the art artificial intelligence, she is everything you could want in an operating system. Just imagine instructing your phone to bring up a website and it says, "Didn't we visit Youtube yesterday" with a hint of sarcasm. Imagine being able to have you phone call you and ask you how your day went. Now imagine that the voice is not coming from scripted text in your phone, but from an advanced technology that has the ability to think independently and develop views about the world. The concept for "Her" is next level for lack of a better term, but at the same time, it's so close to the near future. Writer, producer and director, Spike Jonze has up'd the ante of what we should expect in any type of Sci-Fi/Love Story from here on out. What's Joaquin's Role In All This? As we stated up above, Joaquin stars as Theodore, a passive man who is struggling to find his feelings after enduring a heartbreak that shakes him to the very core. He works a not so typical job bringing hope and happiness via an internet business that sends cards for those too busy to care. Now, even with all his mirthful thoughts being shared across millions of strangers, Theodore is often lonely. He's so lonely, he eagerly signs up to the idea of having a virtual assistant in the literal sense. But what he didn't expect is finding out that his VA, Samantha, is so much more than just a piece of software. Samantha is as alive as the currents pulsing through his computer. She is an impossible reality that comes into Theodore's life at a vulnerable time. When you watch this film, you will see the pain of Ted's story and his acceptance of what he cannot control. Scarlett's Voice Is Remarkable! The fact that Scarlett Johansson was picked to provide the audio for Samantha's character is superb. Scarlett's voice is nothing short of butter with every syllable and sound she utters. We can only imagine the glow the cast of "Her" felt as Johansson read her dialogue in the most seductive, yet genuine of ways. This is also another reason we feel the film gained some many awards and recognition. It's one of a kind and by one-of-a-kind we mean, this movie does not have an equal..yet. The Wrap Up After watching "Her", we began to wonder about the very idea of falling in love with a higher consciousness. Is it even possible? Can you genuinely love someone or an idea whose imprint is solely emotional and not of the physical world? Maybe it is possible because look at how we are in the chat rooms of Facebook and so many other sites. We may never see the people physically, we only exchange data with the images and ideas flashing across our screen. Are we destined for such a future as Theodore? Only time will tell... -Unhinged Reviews-
