“Falling Down” is a great movie about the Everyday Joe experiencing way too much stress over a long period of time. I mean we all go through trails in our day to day on-goings, but this guy literally loses his shiet and goes psychotic on anyone he meets along his rampage. Michael Douglas executes the character “William” to the fullest as he throws rational reasoning out the window.
The story starts off with William in a wall to wall traffic- jam backed up to eyebrows. A traffic-jam like this would definitely work the patience of the most seasoned Job-like person you know. William makes an effort to deal with the situation as best he can, but
ultimately snaps from the strain of all the noise and annoyances in adjacent cars. William jumps out of his car with only a briefcase and begins his journey on foot, leaving his old Jalopy on the side of the road without the slightest hesitation.
As William traverses the town, he encounters the typical riff-raff that one would expect from the city such as petty gangsters and homeless con-men. I don’t want to ruin the story for you, but I can say that as he encounters these characters he definitely leaves a more than memorable impression on their lives. Not all the people that he encounters are looking to get over on him, but he definitely has Everyone on his redlist.
There is a wild point in the story where he makes an attempt to order breakfast just before the switch to lunch, which we have all experienced in our most tasty of food chains. Let me just say this everyday "breakfast 2 lunch restaurant switch" only adds fuel to his already boiling blister of frustration that is aching to be popped!
Simply put..it doesn't go over too well. His frustration is not only taken out on strangers, but on family. For example, the mother of his child experiences his lunacy in a series of manic and unnerving interactions. This movie ranks High in my category of movies to see!
In closing, if you’re looking for a movie that illustrates someone putting their foot on the neck of everyday situations that bring us frustration, Falling Down is your top choice. Happy Watching
