Some people just can't win for losing! Extract is a comedy about a guy named Joel, that has had the misfortune of looking for happiness in all the wrong places. From seeking a multi-million dollar deal selling his company to having a fulfilling relationship at home, it seems he can't win. Joel has a good head on his shoulders, but he doesn't always make the wisest of choices. Especially when his go-to advice man is Dean(Ben Affleck), a pot smoking bartender or his fantasy dream girl is Cindy(Mila Kunis), a sexy con artist. Joel just wants to make it through the day without losing his shirt, but with all the craziness in his life can he do it?
Joel runs a successful company that produces flavored extract for a variety of treats. Joel lives in a nice suburban neighborhood with a wife and a pool. Joel also has been given the opportunity to cash in on the big cow. So I bet you wonder, well "What's Joel's problem"? It's a sequence of events really, that involve one freak accident, one pair of sweatpants, one pill, and a way too much marijuana smoke.
Dean is Joel's BFF, who has a unique way of looking at things and often creates more problems then he solves. Dean works at a bar and carries enough pharmaceuticals in his pocket to drop a horse. Dean also knows the number of a gigolo that is set to turn Joel's life upside down and his wife's inside out. Yes, I know it's an unlikely pair, but the two together makes for an interesting comedy.
Now we are going to add the cunning and very sexy, Cindy(Kunis) to the mixture and see what we get. Cindy is a con artist with an eye for big scores and knack for manipulating men to get whatever she wants. She hears of the freak accident that takes place at Joel's factory and decides to weasel her way into his already teetering on-the-edge situation for a piece of the pie. Cindy adds fuel to the fire and threatens to sour the sweet deal of a lifetime for Joel, but if Joel can get his shiet together he just may have a chance to come out on top.
"Extract" is a mediocre comedy at best and even though it has a few laughable moments, you won't lose any sleep if you miss this one. There are a few more characters in the film that give it a giggle or two more, but nothing to write home about. Now on the other hand, if you watch your movies with a little ambiance in the air, you may roll and chuckle all the way through this one. Unhinged Reviews recommends this film for those that have Netflix and can't think of nothing better to do than kill some time. Or for those with the munchies that want a quick laugh.
