"Been searching for that perfect day? Welcome to the Edge Of Tomorrow"
-Unhinged Reviews What if you woke up to find that everything was exactly the same as it was yesterday with the only difference being that you knew what was going to happen next? Do you think your life would be any different? What could you change? Do over? Would you even do anything different? Interesting questions, but this is not our reality. It is the reality of Major William Cage in "The Edge Of Tomorrow". Ready to Unhinge this Sci-Fi Blockbuster? Let's Go!
Okay, this movie definitely brought a new twist to the table! The concept alone is pure genius, but to be able to execute the idea flawlessly for a good two hours takes talent. "Edge Of Tomorrow" is a sci-fi film that gives us a little sneak peek into what it would actually look like to live the same day over.
Of course the hero's level of motivation is different because he's not just trying to live the day over, he's trying to save the world from an alien invasion. How many of you think that you would be able to handle that much pressure? That much scrutiny? Let's just be glad, we aren't Major Cage..lol
So Who's In The Movie?
Well, let's see, you have Tom Cruise for starters, playing Major Cage who is of course the main character in the film. Cage isn't someone who was born for war, he's more of a pretty boy, at least to start. He couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag in a tsunami, until beastly Vrataski gets a hold of him. And when she does..it's on like Donkey Kong! Sergeant Vrataski a.k.a Emily Blunt is the bad arse soldier leading the military in war against the invasion. She's been in the trenches longer than any other soldier, maybe that's why they have her immortalized in that billboard we see in the trailer. Vrataski takes it upon herself to guide Cage to victory, even if she must kill him to achieve the ultimate goal. Now, before we shift gears, we've got one more noteworthy cast member to mention and that's good ol' Bill Paxton, as Sergeant Farell. Farell is this hard-nosed war dog that doesn't give a flip about anyone's reasons for not wanting to be on the front line, especially Cage's. He could care less how many stars and stripes are draped across Cage's chest because everyone's a soldier to him and death is the only excuse for not being fit for war.
What is the Edge Of Tomorrow About?
So the movie begins by showing Cage being thrusts into the earth's retaliation against an alien invasion. He was never a soldier so to speak, but more of a marketing executive for the military. He is responsible for instilling hope in the people, so that they may have faith in confronting such a formidable opponent. Well, he must have rubbed soldiers with the wrong kink in command because it's not long before he's shipped off to war. Just imagine, going in to the big office to run your game and then getting lumped in with the countless other men being sent to an early demise. Wartime is no joke! Not to get into too many specifics, but let's just say, Cage hits the lottery and scores a one in a million ticket to immortality. Yes, immortality, but it comes with some long arse strings and they aren't the kind you can just clip. These are the strings of time that bind him to the war or much rather cement him to the fate of the earth. But how can he expect to turn the tide if he doesn't know how to fight? That's where the sexy and very violent Sergeant Vrataski comes into play. Cage must find her and learn the ways of the samurai, well not the samurai, but the next best thing..lol He must learn how to utilize his new found immortality to change the course of events that have yet to take place within a future that seemingly cannot be controlled. "Woww, is that not a mouthful?".
Closing Thoughts
Let's face it, "Edge Of Tomorrow" is freakin cool! Just the slogan alone sells it, "Live.Die.Repeat", don't forget the hashtag..lol Tom Cruise doesn't disappoint and he proves yet again why he is the "Goto Guy" for sci-fi and all things cosmic. Emily Blunt put in some quality work as well, walking around in her big suit all aggressive and..edgy. "Edge Of Tomorrow" is one of those movies that will have you pondering a "What if" moment. You know one of those walking out of the theater looking up at the sky and just thinking what life would be like if you could do just one day over. Just wash and repeat one day to get it right..One day to be a little smoother and say all the right things. What would you do with one day to live, die and repeat? -Unhinged Reviews- Thank you for reading the Unhinged Review of "Edge Of Tomorrow", please show your support by sharing this with another, we'd be eternally grateful.
