![]() Wahlberg does it again! "Broken City" is a solid film, chockful of great narratives, plot twists and execution of characters. This movie is definitely a darker more sinister tale than we are used to seeing our heroes such as Wahlberg and Crowe in, but they definitely work together to give this movie a memorable experience. The movie is set in the Big NY and with New York being the backbone of the movie, it comes with Big Time Politics. I've heard of mayors running for office, but this movie gives whole new meaning to King of New York. Wahlberg stars as Taggart, a cop that was asked to resign from duty, due to extenuating circumstances that I shall not disclose in the review. Taggart takes the request with a grain of salt and goes on to make the most of his life as a P.I. Now, this isn't the usual take a pic of this and report that, well until..He was asked to do a job for the mayor, Hostetler(Russell Crowe). This movie has more deceit and seedy behavior than a lawyers convention..lol Just when you think you have the plot and characters figured out "BOOM" wrong and that's when they go for you jugular You don't need to have your thinking caps during the movie, but you need to listen and pay attention to what's being said and by who is saying it. Catherine Zeta-Jones graces the film as Cathleen, a sexy pivot in the film that also happens to be the mayor's wife! And let's just say just because she has a pretty face that doesn't mean she doesn't have a mind of her own. They did well with creating a back-story for Taggart, as he navigates this twisted weave of a wig. Taggart, a recovering alcoholic with a bag full of nails and a stomach full of honesty, makes Wahlberg the perfect pick for the role. I've always liked Wahlberg's role in movies, he plays that dude that you can relate too(not too over the top, not the yard dog, but a real person). I believe the level of sincerity he puts into his roles is what keeps him in such high demand throughout this competitive field called cinema. There is a scene in the movie when I was like OMG, I would have blew my top, but not Taggart, cool as a cucumber. (You'll know the scene when you watch the movie) This movie is recommended for that "Need something good to watch, something to bite into" or that "Oh Wahlberg got another one? I'm on it". You won't be disappointed and no I'm not biased just because Wahlberg literally kills every role he's in, it's because it's people like Taggart that can heal a Broken City. -Unhinged Reviews-
