![]() "When there's no one you can trust, which way do you turn?' -Unhinged Reviews "A Most Wanted Man" is an interesting film, a quiet film featuring a captivating performance from the late, Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This movie is one that's not often talked about, as it doesn't have over the top explosions or a sexy harlot flaunting her wares to the lead actor. "A Most Wanted Man" is more about the story and the thoughts it provokes outside of the viewer's screen. The inspiration for the film comes from John le' Carre's novel of the same name which was turned into a screenplay by Mr. Andrew Bovell. The direction however, was sculpted by Anton Corbijin. What Does It Mean To Be A Spy? Well, for one thing ,we're sure it doesn't mean, run up to the first person you see and tell them what you do for a living..lol Unless you want to become a target or draw out a target. Being a spy involves a little more finesse than the average person emits throughout their day. One has to be discreet beyond belief and accustomed to moving in silence. If a spy were to even entertain the idea of having friends they would be few and far from many. There is no trust in the world of secrecy and everyone you encounter could potentially leave you flat on your face. So with this knowledge, you can see why a spy named Bachmann(Hoffman) has such as hard time trusting anyone outside of his circle in his pursuit of Issa Karpov. Who Is Issa Karpov? Karpov is a focal point of the film that comes to us in the beginning with a story that falls into focus as the minutes roll on. We don't even know his reasons for coming to Hamburg until the other key characters emerge from the depths. The only thing we know is that he is on a mission..but for what? You see, Karpov, he has this beard, but it's not just any beard. He has this ritual, but it again is not just any ritual. From his actions and slant of the story, it's not hard to tell that he's apart of something much bigger, but just how big? Is he a terrorist? Is he a victim? It's all very possible based on what little information we are given until the story unfolds. Interestingly enough the story comes into focus with the assistance of Mr. Willem Dafoe and the lovely, Rachel McAdams. Willem plays the part of Tommy Brue, a wealthy, private banker that becomes entangled in this mesh through a letter and a promise. McAdams however, comes into the story as Annabel Richter, a protector of sorts with morals that only arouse the suspicions of Bachmann. What does Ricther want with Karpov? Who is Dr. Abdullah really working for and What the hell does Dieter Mohr think he's doing?..lol To find out the answers...Watch the movie ^_^ Now, After Watching... You've got to appreciate this film for what it is. "A Most Wanted Man" is not just some movie to sweep under the rug and forget about until the next film bug bites. This is a movie that questions the integrity and motives of the secret agencies that sneak and slither throughout this wide world we live in. Can they be trusted? Who knows. Are they watching? Indeed. Will they read this? For Sure... -Unhinged Reviews- A Few More Edgy Films Worth Checking Out
