One of the most beautiful songs to grace our eardrums in almost the last 30 years comes from none other than Dionne Warick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. These four individuals, multi-talented in their own right, came together to bring us something passionate, hopeful and timeless. There's not many songs that can fill your heart with so much hope and inspiration such as this and this is the reason we must Unhinge a classic..
Now before folks jump down our throats..lol We are giving credit to the original writers Burt Bacharach and Carole Bay Sager who put this little number together for Rod Stewart to sing on Night Shift, but what Dionne and Friends did to it made it epic!
They not only owned the song, they took it to the next level. This alone shows the power that music can achieve when people work together. You know a lot of times artists are so hungry for their own glory and fame that they forget that a divine collaboration can elevate their mission to another plane. Isn't that what making music is about?
Bridging gaps between cultures? Blending backgrounds, race and social standings to the point that all we can see are each other as people first? In a perfect world this would be the ideal, but it's songs like this that for a moment make us believe that it is possible.
We dare you to try and say that this song doesn't make you think of all those close to you, people that are the boulders keeping your foundation strong and vibrant. It's okay, we'll wait?
In today's tough and turbulent times we need more peace, more hope or at least a signal of a brighter future. Sadly however, radios are filled with garbage and hate-murder music. Since when did singing about killing someone become a top 10 hit? When did lyrics about who can smoke the most purple become more relevant and viral than inspiration?
Now, we're not blaming or calling out any one genre of music, but it would be heavenly to see people pulling together and striving for a better tomorrow. It can start with the music and that would be okay because we all know that what we think leads to how we feel followed by our actions. If we keep fueling the airwaves with mindless chatter then our future generations will be facing even darker and more chaotic times than we all face now...
So We Ask...
Will you be more conscious and aware of the energy you displace while here on this earth?
Will you take a moment to create music that inspires, promotes hope and ignites the healing process that this world needs so badly?
It's a big favor to ask, but a raging fire can be lit with one match. Will you be that match?
