"This time I wonder what it feels like to find the one in this life"- Nickel Back
Nickel Back is an exceptional group that knows just how to capture those raw emotions most experience as we live through the day.
"Gotta Be Somebody" is one of those songs that embodies the raw essence of longing and searching for that special someone. Nickel Back had me sold on this song from the first moment I heard it.
It came at a time when I was wandering aimlessly among-st different faces until I found one with a genuine smile. So if it's okay, I'd like to share
with you what I think about every time I hear this amazing tune.
I met her through some good people at a time when I was "Out there" so to speak. I thought I was having fun, doing whatever I wanted to do at all times of the week with my "friends". There wasn't a moment when I couldn't have my way and the word "No" was a foreign language, that is until I met her. She entered my life and stirred it up from the bottom to the top, I was mesmerized at how everything I had been doing up to that point didn't hold a candle to what was beginning with her. Before I knew it I had deleted a bunch of numbers out of my phone and opted for a change.
This change was one of give and take, one of love and being loved and I'm not too big to say it, but I did love. I loved pretty freakin hard if you ask me..lol I did almost everything with this woman, I went whitewater rafting, traveled to Pennsylvania and even went as far south as Alabama. Now, if you knew anything about me then, I wasn't one to take road trips that involved me driving farther than 50 miles. Well, let me tell you something, this girl lived 267 miles away from me and I made the trek up to her home religiously, never missed a month. We had this I go up and she comes down thing where we would see each other twice each month.
Good times all around, zipping back and forth seeing each other every month. Sometimes I wouldn't even want to go back home, but I worked a 40+ wk job so what could I do. When we would get together we would go on trips or just sit and talk and hold each other all weekend, until it was time for one of us to back home. Eventually, we grew tired of the distance and took a leap of faith and moved in together. I know, I know, it changes the game when you close the distance, but we went for it for it anyway.
We had a few struggles or tiffs here and there, but somehow they would always work themselves out. When you have disagreements in a relationship, it's not always a bad thing because it gives you time to grow. So with that said, we grew to be skyscrapers I would imagine...lol Seriously though, we grew closer together and learned a lot about each other as well as our individual selves. I learned that I was much happier in a committed relationship than I had been when I had enough "friends" to run a full court game against an opposing team, along with 1 or 2 bench warmers.
We aren't together now, but let me tell you, it was an amazing life-changing journey. So when Nickel Back wants to get on the mic and say "Gotta Be Somebody", I hear them wholeheartedly. Because for me, she was that somebody in my life when I needed it most. Now for those of you still reading, I'm sure you currently have or have had a special someone that you can think of when you hear this song. "Gotta Be Somebody" is a tune that I will always cherish for the fond memories that it has brought me and for the next journey it brings my way.
