Back in the early 2000s, you couldn't even think of going to a club and not hearing Sean Paul's #DuttyRock blasting through the speakers! The album was and still is Straight Fire!
We were jamming to the classic last night and decided to share a few words about the two steps Sean Paul took to becoming a Dancehall King! It's a light review, but fun nonetheless.
Step 1 - Tell Anyone Within An Earshot To Give You The Light
With fire like this, fans didn't need to be herbal enthusiasts to enjoy the riddims of dancehall reggae. Sean Paul's vibrant sound and "almost" understandable lyrics resonated with the mainstream in a way that most traditional dancehall just couldn't.
Plus, when you take into account Sean's fresh sense of style, video production and overall charisma on screen, it's a hit!(pun intended).
When you play a song like this, whether it's by yourself or with friends, you can just about guarantee a party. There's no way, you can listen to this track and not feel the pulse of energy within his words or the dancehall drums.
So if you haven't given Sean a light yet, do it today and let the good vibes in \m/
Step 2 - Tell Whoever Gives You A Light To "Get Busy"
This has got to be the best one-two punch ever landed in dancehall history! Let's take a look at the science behind his first punch, as it connects with the second.
Okay, so in the first step, he takes your lighter, your dro and your little bottle of mo, off tops. He doesn't even try to give it back, he just takes it.
Then he comes back around in Step 2 and tells you to "Get Busy", now if that isn't ballsy we don't know what is. But do you know what the best part about all of this is...
We got busy, the world danced harder and longer than before. Sean Paul's name was everywhere when this track hit the airwaves. It was something that was even more undeniable than the first single and it's still a heater. Even today, as we write this, we know somewhere someone is enjoying the sounds of Dutty Rock.
Secret Step 3 - Look Back At The Haters An Tell Them You Made It
Now, this Secret 3rd Step is probably the most satisfying step of all for Mr. Sean Paul.
When you look at all he's accomplished in his 10+ year career, you know he has a reason to be pleased with his success.
It's not hard to imagine how many doubters and haters told him that he couldn't make it when all he had was an idea and some talent. We're sure he had to face the small crowds, much like you, before he became the international superstar that he is today.
But...he persevered and now look at him, living his dream.
And with that said, our question for those of you reading, who are up-n-coming artists or just people with passion for the arts... Will you preserve and make your dreams a reality?
