ASAP Rocky may be new to most listeners today, but by his talent and current exposure you can tell he's been on his grind for a minute.
The song title picked for this review is "Suddenly", it's a stripped down song focusing mainly on the lyrical content. It takes a certain confidence to allow your listeners to hear your voice a capella as
this form of delivery allows listeners to feel that the track is a private moment. ASAP executes this like a veteran, even though there's a little loop spinning in the back, he holds his own.
The overall feel of the song is a nice mellow vibe with a bit of bounce at the end. The laid-back flow depicts a casual day in the vein of ASAP's past, as he spits lines like "I remember when I was like 10 maybe 9" The lyrics set the scene for a park-bench conversation amongst friends consuming their most cherished intoxicants. One would assume that everything at their table is purple in one way shape or form, but we won't assume(assuming is the quickest way to make an ass of yourself) here. ASAP demonstrates his story-telling abilities in this track, as well as, his willingness to write songs for unique soundscapes we don't often hear.
Another standout point in this track is when he switches the flow from a nonchalant "I got this" tone to a rapid fire Bone-influenced cadence. As you become more familiar with ASAP's music you'll see that Bone has definitely influenced his decision to pursue music. He makes a note to inform his audience of the fact that he is a fan of music, just as much as he is a creator. It's always nice when respect is given to trailblazers that come before us because without them we wouldn't be where we are today.
"From ugly to comfortably", isn't this what most people strive for? Isn't this the reason we go to work on a Sunday or take that extra day off to spend with a loved one. So much inspiration can come from music and it's this inspiration that catapults us to the next level. Songs don't have to be perfect or even in the top 10 to alter our perception for just a minute. The amazing thing about this truth is...it can happen "Suddenly", before you're even aware it happened.
