Drugs have been in the world of music for longer than I can remember. Any and every substance you can think of has been sung about in one way shape or form. From 3 6 mafia's Sippin on Sizzurp to Toby Keith's I'll never smoke weed with Willie again, musicians have altered their consciousness to suit their needs. Now there's nothing wrong with experimentation, but what happens when the parties over and there are no songs left to play? For some this would mean, "Welp, let me finish off this beer and call it a night", but for others they will continue to satisfy their thirst until there is no turning back.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand that some folks like to get their creative juices flowin and "us" the fans dip and dabble to catch a good one every now and then. But what does an artist do when they realize that taking the edge off isn't fun anymore? When night after night of partying and insane amounts of sex begin taking a toll on the body. A toll that can't be resolved with money or clout, but only with an understanding of what's going around them, happening to them and where it's leading them. We have lost a lot of wonderful/talented artists in the past and will lose many in the future, if somethings don't change.
I know this is a touchy subject and I want you to really think outside of yourself when reading this to the greater whole. This article is not some anti-drug rant, but merely a call to action. It's a call to action for folks to be accountable for their own actions and to realize that time stops for no one. Meaning the time we use chasing whatever addictions, passions, lusts, and thirsts that we have, we need to maintain a balance in ourselves. Moderation is the word I'm looking for here, I don't want another artist or person to perish without me at least telling them that I care.
If you have been some wild off the hook person and want to cool you heels for a bit, it's okay, I understand. And this goes for anyone reading this, "It's okay dude, you don't have to take that last swig, if you don't want it". "Hey girl, you don't have to do that if you don't want too, I still care" and I'm sure many people reading this feel the same way. We have to moderate our thirsts because they can get the best of us every now and then. I'm not Superman here, I know when it's time to sit back and chill, but what about those that don't?
When things in your world begin falling apart, like your health or relationships with you loved ones wither, it's time to chillax. When you don't remember where you parked your car and what his/her name is, it's time to chillax. When your so high that the idea of coming down scares you, it's definitely time to chillax. When your doctor tells you that any of your body parts are misfiring or not functioning properly due to chasing your passion, it's time to chillax. I'm sure we can add more to this list, but I think we get the point.
I'm going to discuss this topic further here and there, but I just wanted to let you know what was on my mind. Thanks for reading!
